Workshop 5
Camera angles
Types
The camera angle marks the specific location at which the camera is placed to take a shot.
A scene may be shot from several camera angles simultaneously.
This will give a different experience and sometimes emotion.
The different camera angles will have different effects on the viewer and how they perceive the scene that is shot.
There are a few different routes that a camera operator could take to achieve this effect.
- Eye-level or neutral shot: The camera angle is parallel to the floor and the camera is positioned at eye of the character. It is the most widely used angle.
- High-angle shot: camera collects from top to bottom, above eye level, facing the ground. Represents a character weak and inferior, since it seems smaller in relation to the environment.
- Low-angle shot: camera records from the bottom up, below eye level. It represents a strong character and higher, since it seems bigger in relation to the environment.
- Point-of-view shot: technique that shows by the camera sees what the character, acting as if the eyes of the actor.
