PILI Vigo Summary

Last September a group of students from IES Castelao had the opportunity to enjoy a 3-week English immersion programme in Great Britain (P.I.L.I. Vigo) organized by the Town Council.

Here are some of their impressions:
“We went to Headington (Oxford) and it was a really good experience because we learned a lot. We learned about the typical English families, schools… We tasted their food and found out about their culture. It was fun!

On the first day we went to our corresponding high school and we met a lot of people. We could see what a school is like in England: school facilities, their subjects and teachers (some of us had German and maths lessons and all of us attended English lessons, of course).
Then, on the first weekend, we visited “Westgate Shopping Centre”.
The following week we went to school every day and, at weekends, we went sightseeing in Oxford and London, where we could see the British Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus and Chinatown.
It was a lovely and unforgettable experience that we enjoyed a lot.”

“This adventure started on 19th September at 10pm at Vigo’s airport, where we met. We took a plane to Madrid and, from there, another to London.
Taking those planes was so funny because it was some people’s first flight and it was magic to live this experience together.
When we finally arrived in London, we took a bus to go to our new house in Headington (Oxford). Once there, they called each one of us to get out of the bus and meet our family. After that, we went home, had dinner and went to sleep; we were so tired! … and the next day we had to go to school.

The following day we went to school; some of us went to Cheney School and others to Saint Gregory. Then, in the evening, we did some activities all together in Cheney. And that was our daily routine.

At weekends, we had some free time and we made two trips: we visited Oxford city centre and London.
Our adventure finished on 10th October and, without even noticing, we had lived one of our best life experiences. We have learnt a lot of things, especially because of our supervisors Aida and Laura, who were the best teachers that we could have. At the end, we were like family. We also met a lot of people and, definitely, we would like to come back.”
