Iron and Steel

In pre-industrialization days iron was produced in small amounts to make small objects because the furnaces were not hot enough.
The first innovation was the use of coke, a new fuel made of coal created by Abraham Darby about 1709 who used it in his blast furnaces instead of charcoal.
Later, in 1853, Henry Bessemer invented the Bessemer process which turns iron into steel.
