Great TV shows:
The Big Bang Theory.
The Big Bang Theory is an
American sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. The show first appeared
on CBS on September, 2007.
The show is about the life of five characters living in
Pasadena, California: Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper, both physicists at
Caltech, who share an apartment; Penny, a waitress who wants to be an actress
and later becomes a pharmaceutical representative. She lives across the hall and spends a lot of time with
them.
The other two characters are aerospace engineer Howard
Wolowitz and astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali. They are very intelligent but
they lack social skills. The geekiness and intellect of the four guys is
contrasted for comic effect with Penny's social skills and common sense.
The main character is Sheldon Cooper. He was born
in Galveston, Texas. He was a child
prodigy with a photographic memory. He started university at the age of 11 and
graduated at 14. He is a theoretical physicist with two doctoral degrees. He
studies quantum mechanics and string theory.
Despite his IQ of 187, he finds many routine aspects of
social situations and life in general difficult to understand. Sheldon has a
poor grasp of other people feel and little comprehension of nuances, often
questioning others if a comment is intended as sarcasm.
He wants to be right all the time, boasts of his
superior intelligence, and he usually pays little attention to other people’s
achievements. Sheldon always sits in the
same spot on the sofa, or knocks on a door three times, and has a compulsion to
complete things. He is also very worried about germs and dislikes physical
contact.
