Tips for a
greener world: reduce.
The first step we have to take to keep our
planet in good shape is reducing the number of things we buy and use.
We must simplify our lives as much as possible. If we only buy things we
are going to use every day and we make an effort to reduce what we own, we will
create less waste in the future.
There is a question you must ask yourself before buying a new product -
do I really need it? If the answer is positive then you must apply the 30-Day
Rule – wait 30 days before buying. This will eliminate “impulse buying”.
Another good option is to have an Eco-Day: For one day, afternoon or
hour a week, don't buy anything, don't use machines, don't switch on anything
electric, don't cook, don't answer your phone and, in general, don't use any
resources.
When it is possible, replace disposable products with reusable ones
(i.e., razors, food storage, batteries, ink cartridges (buy refill ink), coffee
filters, etc.) If you only need something temporarily, you can borrow it from a
friend or a neighbour. Share things like books, magazines, movies, games, and
newspapers between friends and neighbours.
