Kiran: My name is Kiran Tamang. I am 14 years old and I am from Dharan, a town
in the east of Nepal. I live with my parents, my two uncles and my sister.
I usually
get up very early because I have to share the bathroom with the rest of the
family. We have breakfast all together and, at seven thirty, my sister and I
leave for school. Our school is not in town, so first we take a bus and then
walk for a short while up a hill.
For me school is very important. I learn as much as I
can because I know education is the only way I have to make a future for
myself. Life here is difficult for everyone, but when you are a girl, it is
even harder.
I like school. Most of the subjects are really
interesting. Of course, I prefer subjects like maths, physics or chemistry
because I find them more useful, but I also enjoy studying literature or
history.
I am in the school drama company, we rehearse twice a
week. And at the end of every school term we perform a play. Next term we are
playing 'A Streetcar Named Desire' by Tennessee Williams.
