Hi, my name's Penny Smith, that’s p, e, double n, y, s, m, i, t, h and I’m an artist. I really like painting big abstract pictures. Some people say anyone can be an abstract artist. Even a two-year-old child. That makes me a bit angry.
To be a real abstract artist, you have to know how to draw very well first and then, transform your drawings into abstract forms. You also need to know a lot about colours: primary secondary and tertiary colours; opposite and harmonious, cool and warm colours and the effect they have on people.
My favourite painting's Wassily Kandinski’s Yellow- Red- Blue. Its main shapes are a yellow rectangle, a red cross, a blue circle and many black lines. The colours go from warm to cool in a gradual harmonic way.
When I look at it, I see a man’s head and his ideas behind him. It goes from the yellow liveliness of personal emotions on the left, to the blue calm of abstract ideas on the right.
