PDI "Enchanted landscapes": Sherwood Forest and Robin Hood

This is our last  contribution to this school year project "Enchanted landscapes". After having defined what a forest is, its deepest secrets and the similarities between Galician and Irish forestry, on this term we have decided to do some research around one of the most famous legends of the UK: Robin Hood, which is firmly attached to Sherwood Forest. Who was Robin Hood? Was he real? Who were his allies? And his true love? What about his arch-enemy? Take a look at this presentation made by the pupils in year 6  to learn more about this fascinating story.

THE GAMBIA

Last Friday, the 3rd of May, the pupils in year 6 visited the smiling coast of Africa with Zang Sambou, a young Gambian living in Coruña. With his explanations, we had the chance of discovering this fascinating country: its geography, landscape, flora, fauna, currency, population, gastronomy, traditions and much more. We also tried some cashew nuts and the delicious wonjo juice, made with dried hibiscus flowers. Besides, we could see some dalasis, a yuca, a batata and a coconut.

This was the last trip of the project we have been developing this school year 2023-2024: Globetrotters. We have travelled around some English speaking countries thanks to many native speakers who kindly accompanied us in this amazing adventure: Susana García, Eva Cotelo, Declan Mathews and Zang Sambou, among others. We really appreciate their enthusiasm and commitment!

REAL CHEFS

Today the year-5-students have been real chefs!!! We have put on our aprons and hats, washed our hands and  followed the instructions to prepare two delicious desserts: one typically British (banoffee tart) and the other from Australia (Fairy bread). Banoffee pie is a British dessert made from bananas, whipped crream and toffee (dulce de leche), over a buttery biscuit base. Its name is a combination of the words "banana" and "toffee". This classic dessert is super easy to assemble and is totally addicted. Once you taste it, you won´t be able to resist!

What is fairy bread? It´s an Australian snack made from sliced bread, butter and sprinkles, more commonly known as hundreds and thousands There is a variation of this delicious snack: The unicorn toast, which is made of chocolate flavoured sprinkles instead. Most Australians grew up with this beloved sugary snack, which was reserved for birthday parties and special ocassions like Christmas Day or Australia Day.

Here you can enjoy the presentation of this delicious day. Just click on the image to start:

PDI: Enchanted landscapes

This year the whole school is working on a project called "Enchanted landscapes", focusing on the forests. As you know, we always try to give it an English touch, so on this 2nd term we have researched the similarities between Galicia and our sister land: Ireland. Both countries have always had a strong bond and connection, especially in the greenery. Some people even say that the Irish descend from the Milenians, Breogan´s sons, and that we have the same DNA. What is undeniable is that our landscapes are quite similar. Take a look at this presentation made by the pupils in year 6 and click to learn more about this fascinating world. You will also know about the magical creatures that inhabit the Irish woods.

BILINGUAL SECTIONS: Arts & crafts

The second term of Arts and crafts is here for you! As you know, with our project "4 in a year" we are approaching to different artistic styles, techniques, formats and artists through the seasons. During this second term, we have worked the winter and learned about the Impressionism with Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot. We were very lucky to count again on Xulio Gallego, who taught us the colour wheel and the use of paintbrushes and tempera paints. Thank you, Xulio, for all your knowledge, patience and commitment. See you again in spring!

Congrats on the great job you have done! You are real artists!!!
